God is love. This might seem like an obvious statement, but so often I find myself questioning what that means when I don’t get something I want. I’ve been trained by culture to see God as this “Daddy Warbucks”, and less of the Creator of the World.
1 John 2:15 -17 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
Stop and think about what this verse truly means. The Apostle John is not asking us to literally hate the things of the world. God created the world. He is saying that our love for those things should not be more than our love for God.
Here’s my challenge for the day:
- Pray for God to open your eyes to the things you love more than Him right now.
- What things are in your focus more than God?
- How can you eliminate or lessen the temptation or draw of these things?
