Being Thankful For Your Story

You made it through Thanksgiving! It’s officially the holiday season! Maybe you spent the night shopping until you dropped. Maybe you are like me, and you climbed into bed thankful for your husband and family don’t like shopping, and don’t do “Black Friday shopping”.

We are now in the season of giving, but in giving, it’s hard sometimes not to compare what others might be able to give. You might have a tight budget this year, no budget at all, or while you have plenty of budget, you might find yourself still longing for more.

Matthew tells us in Chapter 6: 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Now it’s not wrong to give gifts, and have joy in that. It’s about your heart in this season. He is writing a story in and through you. Your story is going to be different from everyone else’s. You are unique in that. All He asks is that we focus on Him. We seek Him first.

Today, spend some time thanking God for your story, and how God has made you. Confess any areas where you might be struggling to be content.

Have more time? Want to go deeper?

  • Journal or pray through this question: Are you thankful for the story God is writing in and through you? Why or why not?
  • What are some areas God might want you to surrender, or completely give to Him? Confess those to Him if you feel the need.
