Lately, I’ve felt a little discouraged. I’ve been on a long road where patience and perseverance are needed, and it gets weary at times. I’m a pretty determined (ok a little stubborn might be a better word) person, so when things get tough, I grit my teeth, and get it done.
Lately, God has been showing me that’s not quite how He wants me to respond sometimes. Though sometimes we do just have to grin and bear it, there are other times where He wants us to let Him move. I came across this verse the other day:
“It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for You loved them.” (Psalm 44:3)
What amazes me here is how in the midst of a battle where pride runs high, these soldiers knew clearly it wasn’t their strength, their plan, their weapons. They knew the only reason they won was because of God’s love for them.
Today, pray and ask God to be present. Ask Him to reveal to you any areas where you might be trying to do something in your own strength and not allowing Him to move. Pray through those, and think of ways to help yourself let go and let God move. If you need accountability in that, share with your small group or a trusted friend. Remember to give yourself grace in it though…it’s a slow process sometimes!
Have more time? Want to go deeper?
- Spend some time praising God for all the ways He has won battles for you.
- Read Eph. 5:1-2. How are you following God’s example lately? How might you be more of a fragrant offering?
