One of my friends shared with me that her word for the year is “Focus”, and I instantly had word envy (if that’s even a thing). I love the idea of being focused on what’s important because it helps you to forget whatever else might be around you. I know for more, there’s been so much trying to catch my attention – the laundry, the stack of bills to be filed, work emails, and commercials on TV…I could go on and on.
I think sometimes I have trouble focusing because it’s been so long since I’ve focused on that one thing, that I almost have to touch it to remember that it’s there. The prophet Daniel shares his experience of how He saw Jesus in the midst of the chaos around him:
13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Daniel is known for his dreams, and here it is no different. No one had seen the son of God yet physically, and here Daniel was sharing that He was coming. He talks of how he sees him at night in the clouds of heaven. Can you imagine how much energy and focus you would need to be able to see that clearly at night back before headlights, and street lamps?
Daniel tells this with great excitement too, in the midst of strive and war that covered the region, knowing that the king above all kings is coming, and His Kingdom cannot and will not be destroyed.
Today, ask God to be present. Then, think about what your focus has been on. Confess if you are focused on anything you don’t need to be, or that might be taking your focus off Jesus. Praise God for sending His son, and for His power that His Kingdom will never be shaken.
